DESCRIPTION

Soframycin Antiseptic Cream is a widely used topical antibiotic skin cream designed to treat bacterial skin infections and prevent infections in minor wounds. It contains the active ingredient Framycetin Sulphate (1%).

Key Uses

• Minor Injuries: Effective for cuts, grazes, and abrasions to prevent bacterial growth.

   

• Burn Care: Used on minor scalds and burns to keep the area sterile.

   

• Skin Infections: Treats conditions like impetigo, furunculosis (boils), and infected hair follicles (folliculitis).

   

• Secondary Infections: Often applied to existing skin conditions like eczema or ulcers that have become infected by bacteria.

   

How it Works

Framycetin belongs to the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics. It works by inhibiting the production of essential proteins that bacteria need to grow and multiply. By disrupting this process, it effectively kills the bacteria or stops the infection from spreading.

Application Guide

1. Clean: Gently wash and dry the affected area before application.

    

2. Apply: Use a small amount of cream and rub it in gently.

3. Frequency: Typically applied 1 to 4 times daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

4. Covering: The area can be left open or covered with a sterile dressing if necessary.

Precautions

• External Use Only: Do not apply to the eyes or inside the mouth/nose.

   

• Duration: Avoid long-term use (usually more than 10 days) unless advised by a doctor, as it may lead to skin sensitization or fungal overgrowth.

• Hypersensitivity: Do not use if you have a known allergy to Framycetin or other aminoglycoside antibiotics (like Neomycin).

   

• Large Areas: Use caution when applying to large areas of broken skin, as systemic absorption can occur.
