Description
Septran DS tablet is an antibiotic medicine used to treat various bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting the growth of the infection-causing organism. Septran DS is a combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole.
It should not be used for children under 12 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers. This tablet should be taken as directed by the doctor and in doses and duration as prescribed. You should take Septran DS with food.
Always complete the entire course of treatment with antibiotics, as incomplete treatment may result in treatment failure and an increased risk of re-infection.
Bactrim DS tablet also contains a combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole.
Side effects include a headache, nausea, diarrhoea, skin rashes, an increase in potassium levels and the development of fungal infections. In case you experience any of the side effects or you feel any discomfort after using this medicine, contact your doctor immediately.
Before using the Septran DS tablet, inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about your detailed medical history. It is advised to complete the course of antibiotics and not skip any dose even if you feel better.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to trimethoprim or sulfamethoxazole or any other ingredient of Septran DS tablet.

If you have severe liver damage or jaundice.

If you have severe kidney damage.

If you are suffering from a condition of reduced platelets caused by antibodies produced as a response to trimethoprim and/or sulphonamides (drug-induced immune thrombocytopenia).

If you are giving it to infants in the first 6 weeks of birth.

If you are pregnant woman, especially in the third trimester.
