Technical Profile
-
Active Ingredient: Povidone-Iodine 10% w/w (equivalent to 1% available Iodine).

-
Base: Water-soluble ointment base (non-staining to skin, though it may discolor natural fabrics).
Key Uses
-
Infection Prophylaxis: Applied to minor traumatic injuries to prevent bacterial colonization.
-
Treatment of Minor Infections: Used on small areas of infected skin.

Post-Surgical Care: Often applied to suture lines or incision sites to maintain a sterile environment during healing.
-
Burn Care: Useful for managing superficial (first-degree) or minor second-degree burns.
Application Instructions
-
Clean: Gently clean the affected area and pat dry.
-
Apply: Spread a small amount of ointment over the area 1 to 3 times daily.
-
Cover: The area may be left uncovered or dressed with a sterile bandage if necessary.
Precautions & Contraindications
-
Thyroid Conditions: Long-term use over large surface areas should be avoided in patients with thyroid disorders, as iodine can be absorbed systemically.
-
Deep Wounds: Not intended for use on deep puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns without medical supervision.
-
Pregnancy/Nursing: Consult a physician before prolonged use, as absorbed iodine can cross the placental barrier.
