DESCRIPTION

Melamet Cream is a topical medication commonly prescribed for the short-term treatment of moderate-to-severe melasma (dark spots or patches on the skin). It is a triple-combination therapy designed to lighten skin tone and reduce inflammation.

Key Ingredients & Functions

The cream typically contains three active components:

• Hydroquinone (2%): A skin-bleaching agent that reduces the production of melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color) to lighten dark spots.

   

• Tretinoin (0.025%): A form of Vitamin A (retinoid) that increases skin cell turnover. This helps the hydroquinone penetrate more effectively and aids in shedding pigmented skin cells.

   

• Mometasone Furoate (0.1%): A mild corticosteroid that reduces redness, swelling, and irritation that may be caused by the other two ingredients.

   

Directions for Use

• Application: It is generally recommended for nighttime use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected areas after cleansing your face.

   

• Sun Protection: This medication makes the skin highly sensitive to sunlight. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and wearing protective clothing during the day is essential, even if it is cloudy.

   

• Duration: It is intended for short-term use (typically up to 8 weeks) under medical supervision to avoid side effects like skin thinning.

Side Effects & Precautions

• Common effects: Mild burning, stinging, redness, or peeling at the application site.

   

• Precautions: Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and the corners of the nose. It should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding without consulting a doctor.
