DESCRIPTION
The Romsons Mucus Extractor (GS-5018) is a specialized medical device designed primarily for the safe and effective aspiration of secretions from the oropharynx of newborns. It is also a standard tool for collecting mucus specimens for microbiological examinations.
Core Design & Features
-
Transparent Container: Made from medical-grade, non-toxic PVC or Polypropylene, the 25ml chamber allows for immediate visual inspection of the aspirate (color, consistency, and volume).
-
Trauma-Free Catheter: The catheter features a low-friction surface and a “silk-smooth” round, open-end tip. This design ensures that the device can be inserted into a newborn’s delicate airway without causing tissue trauma.
-
Dual Functionality: While its primary use is clearing airways, it includes a spare plug cap. This allows the container to be sealed securely after collection for safe transport to a laboratory or aseptic disposal.
-
Sterility: Each unit is individually double-packed in a peelable soft blister pack, ensuring it remains sterile until the moment of use.
Clinical Applications
-
Neonatal Resuscitation: Used immediately after birth to clear the airway of amniotic fluid or mucus to help the infant take their first breath.
-
Specimen Collection: Used to obtain sterile samples from the respiratory tract for diagnostic testing (e.g., testing for infections).
-
Critical Care: Essential in Labor Rooms, NICUs, and Pediatric wards for managing patients who cannot clear their own secretions.
How to Use (Standard Procedure)
-
Connect the catheter end to a controlled suction source (if using the manual version, the caregiver provides suction via the mouthpiece).
-
Gently insert the smooth tip into the oropharynx.
-
Apply suction to collect the mucus into the chamber.
-
If a laboratory sample is needed, disconnect the catheter and seal the chamber with the provided spare cap.
