DESCRIPTION
The Mist (or Joymist) Digital Blood Pressure Monitor is a fully automatic, upper-arm medical device designed for easy home monitoring.1 It typically uses MDI (Measuring During Inflation) Technology, which means it starts measuring your vitals while the cuff is still inflating, making the process faster and more comfortable than older “inflation-then-deflation” models.
Key Features & Specifications
Based on the standard Joymist/Mist digital models, here are the technical highlights:
-
Display: Large LCD digital screen showing Systolic, Diastolic, and Pulse Rate.2
-
Measurement Method: Fully automatic oscillometric method (typically upper arm).3
-
Irregular Heartbeat Detection: Most models include an “IHB” indicator that alerts you if an irregular pulse is detected during the reading.
-
Memory Function: Often supports dual-user mode, storing up to 90 or 120 readings per user with date and time stamps.
-
Pressure Range: * Pressure: 0 to 280 mmHg (Accuracy: $\pm 3$ mmHg).
-
Pulse: 40 to 199 beats/min (Accuracy: $\pm 5\%$ of reading).
-
-
Power Source: Usually powered by 4 AAA batteries or a USB power adapter (Micro-USB or Type-C).
How to Use Your Monitor
To get the most accurate reading, follow these steps:
-
Preparation: Sit quietly for 5 minutes.4 Avoid caffeine, exercise, or smoking 30 minutes before testing.5
-
Cuff Placement: Wrap the cuff around your bare upper arm, about 1 inch (2–3 cm) above your elbow.6 The air tube should run down the center of your inner arm, aligned with your middle finger.
-
Positioning: Sit with your back supported, feet flat on the floor (don’t cross your legs), and your arm resting on a flat surface at heart level.7
-
Start: Press the Start/Stop button. Remain still and quiet until the cuff fully deflates and your results appear.
Common Display Symbols
-
SYS / DIA: Your Systolic (top) and Diastolic (bottom) numbers.8
-
PUL: Your pulse rate (heartbeats per minute).9
-
Heart Symbol: Flashes during measurement; if it has “brackets” around it after the reading, it may indicate an irregular heartbeat.
-
Low Battery: A battery icon appears when it’s time to replace the AAA batteries
