DESCRIPTION
Glycerin is a hygroscopic substance, which means it has the ability to attract and retain moisture from the air. This property makes it a key ingredient in a wide range of products across various industries, including:
- Food and Beverage: Used as a humectant, sweetener, and preservative in products like soft candies, energy bars, and icings. It helps maintain moisture, prevent sugar crystallization, and improve texture.
- Cosmetics and Personal Care: Widely used in moisturizers, lotions, soaps, and hair products due to its humectant properties, which help to hydrate the skin and hair.
- Pharmaceuticals: Acts as a solvent, excipient, and humectant in medications like cough syrups, ointments, and suppositories. It can also be used to treat certain medical conditions, such as glaucoma.
- Industrial Applications: Used as a softening agent in textiles, a plasticizer in paper, and a component in the production of things like explosives (nitroglycerin) and antifreeze.
Topical Use (on the skin)
